A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has said that President Bola Tinubu remains a better option for Nigeria’s leadership than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, despite what he described as shortcomings in the current administration.
Lawal made the remarks on Monday during a live interview on *Politics Today* on Channels Television, where he compared both political figures in strong terms while addressing the state of governance in the country.
He argued that, in a direct choice between both men, Tinubu would still rank higher based on his assessment of potential outcomes.
According to him:
> “I believe that Bola Tinubu’s presidency, as bad as it is now on a comparative level, Tinubu would be an excellent President compared to what Atiku would plunge us into.”
He further described the decision as one between two unfavorable options, adding:
> “When you are between the devil and the devil and you must go somewhere, what you therefore do is look for the lesser devil, because even in the satanic world, devils have categories.”
Lawal’s comments come shortly after his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He had accused the party’s leadership of irregularities in the primary election that produced Atiku as its presidential candidate, claiming the process was heavily manipulated.
