A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, has been found dead in a canal in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja following her disappearance last week.

Family members said she left home around 8 p.m. on Thursday after receiving a phone call. According to her sister, Abigail Moshood, she later called back about an hour after leaving, saying she would briefly return to pick up a phone charger she had forgotten.

The family said they became concerned when she did not return that night and could not be reached the following day.

“We later heard reports that a woman’s body had been found in a canal,” Abigail said. “The description of her hairstyle matched my sister’s. We went to the station and were shown photographs that confirmed her identity.”

She added that police from the Jikwoyi division recovered the body and moved it to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State. The body was reportedly found partially clothed.

Residents in the area described Blessing as well known and easygoing. A neighbour, Margaret, said she was academically strong and communicated fluently.

“People here liked her. She was friendly and carried herself well,” she said.

Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, urged security authorities to increase patrols in parts of Jikwoyi, particularly around the medical centre, citing rising cases of phone-related robberies.

A police officer at the Jikwoyi division confirmed the incident but declined to give details, saying the matter is under investigation. The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command also confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
