Reports are rife that the Governor Aminu Masari-led screening committee for posts into the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been advised to make the exercise “accomodate aspirants for the entire party positions.”
There are strong indications that all the national chairmanship aspirants will be cleared to face the delegates despite talks of consensus option.
The source said similar privilege has been extended to all other aspirants vying for other party offices at both the national and zonal levels of the party.
The report further stated that the aim was to avoid any issue that could constitute a clog in the wheels of the national convention.
It was also gathered that the party will rake in about N1 billion from the sale of nomination forms to the aspirants.
However, the screening exercise for aspirants was disrupted by the heavy presence of persons suspected to be hired political thugs and hoodlums.
The presence of the thugs made accessment into the screening venue difficult as most Chairmanship aspirants went through tough time while trying to get themselves screened.
The exercise which was scheduled to commence by 10pm last night was halted when the suspected hired thugs barricaded the entrance to the venue at the Katsina State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro District of Abuja chanting praises of their benefactor.
Journalists were barred from gaining access to the venue of the screening exercise.
