In a deeply unfortunate incident, a 63-year-old man identified as Aminu Mahdi, a former staff member of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, has been apprehended for the alleged murder of his wife, Hadiza Zubuchi, aged 46. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Yelwa Ward, within the jurisdiction of Mubi North Local Government Area.
According to reports, the tragic incident stemmed from a disturbing confrontation between Aminu and his second wife, Hadiza. The motive behind the altercation? Aminu’s frustration over being denied access to her bed.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the suspect had confessed to the crime but had not intended for the situation to escalate to such a tragic outcome.
The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 27, 2023, when Aminu returned home around 9:00 pm. After consuming his meal and changing his attire, he proceeded to the room where he was to spend the night with his wife. However, his wife rebuffed his advances, refusing to share her bed with him.
In response to his wife’s rejection, an altercation ensued. Hadiza began striking Aminu with a stick, leading him to forcibly wrest it from her grasp. In a shocking turn of events, Aminu repeatedly assaulted his wife, resulting in her tragic demise.
The marriage between Aminu and Hadiza had commenced in 2016, making the incident all the more distressing for those involved.
Expressing remorse for his actions, Aminu later stated to the police, “I didn’t expect that this kind of incident would happen to me. It was a mistake.”
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of resolving conflicts through non-violent means and seeking professional assistance when needed. It has sent shockwaves through the local community and underscores the need for awareness about domestic violence and its devastating consequences.
