Adamawa Postpones Payment of New Minimum Wage to Workers, Blames Coronavirus


Adamawa state Government has said that it cannot pay the state’s workforce the new minimum wage this March because of the economic impact of the coronavirus on the state.

According to a press statement signed by the governor’s Director of Communication and Media, Mr Solomon Kumangar, the Governor assured that the state will pay the minimum wage and arrears it recently reached the agreement with the Labour unions as soon as the pandemic abates.

“It should be noted that the government decided on this and other cost-saving measures to enable it to undertake basic services.

“Finally, the government assures that the welfare of the workforce remains paramount and the centrepiece of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s cardinal agenda,” the statement said.
