The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye has ruled out defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of November 16 gubernatorial election in Kogi state.
Dino, who contested the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a tweet sent from his official Twitter account on Sunday evening said only people with degree in stupidity will leave the PDP for the APC.
Melaye had last week turned down an offer from the PDP to serve as the party’s campaign Director-General for the Kogi election fuelling speculations that he may consider dumping the party following his inability to clinch the PDP’s ticket.
The senator is also battling to retain his seat in the National Assembly after the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Lokoja nullified his election as the senator representing the district. The tribunal ordered a rerun after it upheld the petition of Smart Adeyemi of the APC challenging the declaration of Melaye as the winner of the February 23 Kogi West Senatorial District election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Melaye faulted the judgement and had filed a notice of appeal at the Appeal Court.
