Gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday invaded the Lokoja Confluence stadium, Lokoja venue of the gubernatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the venue at about 1:45 am when sorting of votes was ongoing after voting had ended. Votes in eight out of the 10 ballot boxes where votes were cast had already been counted when the gunmen that came shooting at different directions disrupted the process.
Chairman of the electoral panel and the governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri reportedly escaped being shot at by the gunmen. Aspirants and delegates scampered for safety during the ensuing pandemonium.
Calm has returned to the venue after security personnel brought the situation under control. No statement yet from the PDP on the incident.
