Ganduje, Sanusi Feud Resurfaces at Eid-el-Kabir

The feud between the governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduje and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi resurfaced during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations as the governor ordered District Heads in the state not to attend the Kano Durbar.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the chief press secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar, district Heads were told to celebrate the festivity in their various emirates breaking tradition. The statement made clarifications “against some calls circulating in the social media, that all district heads were directed to attend Hawan Daushe at Kano emir’s palace, the Kano State government has directed all Hakimai to attend Hawan Daushe at their respective emirates. It is therefore directed that, district heads from Bichi emirate should attend their Hawan Daushe with the first-class emir of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, District Heads from Rano Emirate should attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class Emir Alhaji Dr Tafida Abubakar (Autan Bawo).

“All district heads from Karaye emirate should attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class Emir, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II, all district heads from Gaya emirate should attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class emir, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir and those district heads from Kano emirate are also directed to attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.”

Ganduje and Sanusi have been at loggerheads after the latter allegedly supported the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 2019 gubernatorial election in the state. The governor moved against Sanusi by splitting the Kano Emirates into 5 leaving him with only 10 local government areas out of 44. The Kano state anti-graft agency indicted Sanusi for corruption an allegation he has denied.

The governor however, attended prayers led by Sanusi at the Kofar Mata Central Eid ground in Kano.
