The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu has directed for a probe into the activities of his Tactical Team that allegedly went to serve Mr. Timi Dakolo and his Wife, Busola invitation letters in Lagos on Saturday.
The directive came after the Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba earlier on Sunday said the operations of the Tactical team was authorized by the Police authorities. The IGP according to a statement issued on Monday by Mba, also directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Michael Ogbizi to take over the investigation of the rape allegation against the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo.
He said, “The DIG is also expected to take over the investigation of the complaint made by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo against the Dakolos in addition to providing a personal supervision to all facets of the investigation to ensure justice and fair-hearing to all the parties, with each case being treated purely on its merit.
“In the same vein, the IGP has directed that the procedure which the police operatives adopted in serving invitation letters on Timi and Busola Dakolo on Saturday, July 20, be subjected to rigorous and discreet scrutiny to ascertain its conformity with police standard operating procedure and international best practices.
“While enjoining the general public and the parties involved in the cases to remain calm and patient, the IGP assures of unalloyed police professionalism in the matter.”
The decision of the IGP is not unconnected to the public outrage that trailed last Saturday’s actions of the Tactical team whom Nigerians accused of trying to forcefully take the Dakolos into police custody. The team arrived at the Dakolos residence from Abuja in a white Toyota hiace bus belonging to the Tactical team of the IGP. The First Lady, Aisha Buhari joined in the condemnation by drawing the attention of the police authorities in a tweet on Saturday.
