Drama As AAC Suspends AntiCorruption Activist, Sowore For Corruption

There was mild drama on Monday in Abuja as the African Action Congress (AAC), announced the suspension of its national chairman and presidential candidate for the February 23 presidential election, Mr. Omoyele Sowore and some other members from the party.

Sowore’s suspension was the fallout of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The Sahara Reporters founder and anticorruption activist was suspended for alleged anti-party activities, failure to convene NEC meeting and financial impropriety.

The committee announced Mr. Leonard Nzenwa as the acting national chairman. According to the committee, Sowore’s suspension will be for a period of six months unless overturned by the national convention of the party.

The suspension, however, did not go down well with Sowore who in protest said Nzenwa and the committee members have been already been suspended by the party.

In a statement issued on Monday by Sowore, he described the group as misguided individuals.

“These members led by Leonard Nzenwa, former national secretary who was suspended for financial impropriety and anti-party activities have demonstrated by their actions that they never been, and have never shared, the core beliefs that those of us in the African Action Congress hold.

“Leonard Nzenwa is hereby expelled from the party, and the misguided individuals who participated in the Abuja meeting are suspended from the party until investigations reveal the extent of their involvement” he said.
