The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appoints Nkiru Balonwu for Women Mobilization

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Nkiru Balonwu, a managing partner at RDF, a communications and stakeholder engagement consultancy, to engage Nigerian women ahead of the 2019 election.

According to the party, the move underscores the seriousness of the PDP at approaching the 2019 presidential campaign from an issues-based perspective.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP, had said his cabinet would include 40 percent of youth and women.

Abubakar said he is emotionally attached to womanhood while explaining that poverty cannot be eradicated without the empowerment of women.

Prior to RDF, Balonwu was CEO of Spinlet – a digital music platform for African music across the continent and around the world.

She had also served as a lecturer at the faculty of law at the University of Lagos and was a founding member of Ratio Consulting.

She is the creator of Bukkipa, a user-friendly mobile app that simplifies the accountancy and cash flow management processes for individuals and SMEs.

Balonwu is also a founding member and chair of African Women on Board (AWB), a network of African women on the continent and in the diaspora who aspire to become leaders within their workplaces, communities, and governments.

She holds a doctorate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, masters from University College London (UCL) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Manchester. She has been called to the Bar in Nigeria, England & Wales and New York.

She is expected to use her wealth of experience to bear on the PDP’s campaign in the upcoming elections.
